The UCD College of Social Sciences and Law has delivered a strong performance in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, with the majority of its Schools now ranked among the top 100 globally.
Nine of the College’s eleven Schools are represented in the top 100 worldwide, including the UCD School of Archaeology, UCD School of Education, UCD School of Geography, UCD School of Information and Communication Studies, UCD Sutherland School of Law, UCD School of Philosophy, UCD School of Politics and International Relations, UCD School of Social Policy, Social Work and Social Justice, and UCD School of Sociology.
This outcome reflects the breadth and quality of research and teaching across the College, as well as its growing international reputation. At a broader level, UCD’s Social Sciences ranking has risen to within the top 150 globally.
A particular highlight is the performance of Library & Information Management (UCD School of Information and Communication Studies) which has re-entered the global top 50 and is now ranked 40th in the world, making it the highest-ranked subject in UCD this year.
Across the University, UCD now has 18 subjects ranked in the top 100 globally, the highest number since the QS subject rankings were introduced in 2013. Of the subjects included in the 2026 rankings, a significant number have improved their position, reflecting sustained investment in research, teaching and international collaboration.
These results reflect the scale and consistency of performance across the College, with strength evident across multiple disciplines rather than concentrated in a small number of areas, providing a strong foundation for continued development across its Schools in the years ahead.
