Introduction to Policy Engagement

Are you keen to see your research considered as part of the policymaking process, but unsure where to begin?

Join us for the GIRSI Masterclass: Introduction to Policy Engagement on 28th April at Meeting Room 4, UCD Village from 10am to 12pm. Tea, coffee, and lunch will be provided.

This introductory workshop, aimed at researchers who have limited or no experience of working with policymakers, will help you understand the fundamentals of research-policy engagement. You will explore:

  • What policies are, are who’s involved in making them
  • The role of evidence in policymaking at different levels
  • Which policymakers might be interested in, or affected by, your research
  • How and when to connect with these stakeholders

Through presentations, discussion, and hands-on stakeholder mapping exercises, this workshop will help you to understand your policy audience, and to begin prioritising who to connect with. By the end of the session, you’ll have a clearer sense of the people and organisations you could collaborate with to develop better policy outcomes, along with practical ideas for building your policy network.

This workshop will be facilitated by Dr Máire Brophy, who brings more than 20 years of experience in research and consultancy. Previously, Máire was Director of Development (Research and Evaluation) at the Centre for Effective Services, where she worked with government departments, state agencies and the charity sector to support the use of evidence in policy and public services.
